The Arts at Riverhill

Riverhill is a garden fuelled by inspiration. When the influential horticulturalist John Rogers bought Riverhill in 1840 he was inspired by his love of botany and horticulture, finding the gentle shelter here perfect for cultivating the precious plants bought back from China and the Himalayas. Those plants aren't the only things to have flourished at Riverhill. Since then 6 generations of the Rogers family have grown up here, nurtured and inspired by this most remarkable of gardens.

The Arts have always had a place at Riverhill; from the original garden designs and plant sketches commissioned and created by the Rogers family in the 1840s, to the warm welcome extended to sculptors, artists, writers and actors today. In 2015 this relationship with the Arts was formalised when we invited Abegail Morley to join us as the first Riverhill Poet in Residence. In 2016 we introduced Manu Palomeque as Photographer in Residence, and welcomed the 2016 ForumArts Sculpture Symposium , The Sevenoaks Art Club, The Stag Youth Theatre and more.

We welcome you too, to visit, to be inspired, to enjoy the art on display at Riverhill and to create your own.
